Over the years I have made several large purchases from Adorama (Many tens of thousands of dollars for me and my colleagues). The last attempt ended in disaster.

I was replacing a 300mm f/2.8 with a new one (last one was damaged beyond repair and covered by insurance). I was on the phone and making the order specifying that I wanted free overnight shipping. All the while expecting them to grant it to me or refuse it. It's always worth the ask and I needed it for the upcoming three day weekend.

I was told no and then was told to wait while he checked with management. When he returned to the call he offered overnight shipping for a "discounted" amount of $49.00. I balked and said never mind, I'll order from another online seller. He quickly and politely obliged but when I tried to make the same order from another seller (they gave me free overnight shipping), but my card was locked by the interrupted transaction at Adorama - even though I hadn't made an order.

Their system pre-charged my card rendering it unusable (at the amount needed for the $5400 lens). Eight days later I'm STILL waiting to make a purchase but the amount is locked up until it clears through normal channels. An ordering system should not lock one out of their account when one attempts an order (not even completed).

The phone representative should have at least warned me before the order was completely cancelled - he would have known that I was THAT far into an order, I had no idea that he pre-billed my card. I'm done with them - forever - and will share this info at every review site.

Reason of review: Problems with payment.
